Overall height vs clear trunk height

Two palms described as the same “height” may look very different if their measurements use different starting and finishing points. Ask the supplier to state how the measurement was taken, ideally with a marked photograph.

Overall tree height

The full tree measurement, including its crown. Confirm the reference points used and whether a container or root ball is included.

Clear trunk height

The exposed trunk measurement below the crown. Confirm where the supplier starts and ends this measurement.

Crown spread

The width occupied by the fronds. Request it separately where spacing between walls, paths or other trees matters.

Root-ball or container size

The dimensions of the root ball or container supplied with the tree. Include them in the discussion about transport, handling and the planting area.

Choosing young, medium or mature date palms

These are broad descriptions, not a universal size standard. A clear order should include actual dimensions rather than only “small” or “large”. Browse date palm size options and ask which currently available trees match your specification.

For young palms, ask about their present size and trunk development. For medium and mature trees, compare the trunk and crown dimensions as well as the space and access at your site. If you are matching an existing row, send photos and measurements of the trees already there.

Date palms for fruit production or landscape planting

Explain what you want the tree to do. A farm enquiry may need information about variety and plant identity; a villa or commercial landscape enquiry may focus on appearance, height and spacing. These are different purchasing briefs.

• What timing is possible for my site location and access?

Comparing palm tree quotations

Compare the same species, measurements and quantity. A tree-only quote cannot be compared directly with one that also includes transport or site work. Confirm whether delivery, unloading, lifting equipment, planting and any follow-up responsibilities are included, excluded or unavailable.
